Hello Wednesday - with this ring

clock August 25, 2010 09:19 by author Crafty Ribbons

Don't you just LOVE wednesday's? Say hello to wednesday  "hello wednesday" It's all down hill from now on to the weekend - yippee!!!

With this ring, on this ring cushion, I will........

A simple gift made for a friend of a friend.  She wanted a small ring cushion for her bridesmaid to carry.  I offered to embroider one for her, but she wanted it very simple, so I came up with this.

A bed of white ribbon roses, tied with a simple bow to hold the ring in place.  The bride was delighted with the result.

I used a wide ribbon (you can find it HERE), this ribbon was perfect as it had crinkles, which would add an extra dimension to the finished cushion.  I removed the wire from both edges of the ribbon, so I was left with nothing but ribbon!  Each rose takes about 80cms of ribbon.

Fold the two ribbon edges together and sew a running stitch along the length of the ribbon. Gather up the ribbon on the thread, and roll the ribbon around the the gathers.  It is similar to our Ribbon Roses tutorial which you can see HERE.  Once the rose has formed, secure in place with a few stitches, the fold of the ribbon forms the top of the roses. I made 9 of these roses for my ring cushion.

I placed the roses on the table to form a tight square, I needed to measure them so I could make the cushion.  I cut two pieces of fabric the same size as the rose square, which meant that it would come out slightly smaller once it was finished.  Place the two pieces of fabric on top of each other and machine about 1cm away from the edge all the way round the square, leaving a small gap.  Trim the fabric corners, to reduce a bit of bulk.  Poke your fingers into the gap and turn the cushion the correct way round.  Push the corners out, so they are nice and square.

Fill the cushion with stuffing and hand sew up the gap.  Mark the centre of the cushion with a small pencil dot, so all your roses will fit perfectly!

The next bit was really easy (my sewing teacher would have had a fit!), I used a hot glue gun to stick the roses to the cushion.  Stick the centre one first and work your way around the cushion.  If you can see any of the fabric between the roses, just put a little bit of glue and stick the roses together.  Do not use too much glue as you do not want the cushion to feel hard.

Tie a ribbon around the cushion to hold the ring in place.

Fingers crossed all brides this weekend will have stunning weather, it is very wet here in Dorset today.

Hello Wednesday - from the Vine

clock August 18, 2010 09:19 by author Crafty Ribbons

Don't you just LOVE wednesday's? Say hello to wednesday  "hello wednesday" It's all down hill from now on to the weekend - yippee!!!

I have been so tied to the computer lately that it was a real pleasure to get do a little bit of crafting, out came the foam pads, card and double sided tape - oh that felt good.

I love crafting with all type of ribbon but for me there is nothing better than working with a new range of ribbons.  Feeling and touching it, seeing how it folds or what it will do - it's pure pleasure.

This card was made using our NEW Collection of ribbons called Vine Yard.  A small group of ribbons dedicated to the vine- very rosy, fruity with a hint of willow, bunch of ribbons!!

Yes the grapes are all made from ribbon.  This is a technique that I use a lot and is perfect for wider ribbons.

Just cover the back of the ribbon with double sided tape, if you only have narrow width tape, just put several strips down.

Peel off the backing paper from the tape and stick the ribbon onto card.

With a sharp pair of scissors cut around the shape.

Use your foam pads to create extra dimension as you would with decoupage.

If you want to join in with a super glass of Crafty Ribbons Chardonnay ribbons then you will find them all HERE

clock August 16, 2010 18:12 by author Crafty Ribbons

No silly, we are not sending Mollie off to a New home - no one would want that "Animal" as per her t shirt. I am talking about our Animal Cuties Ribbon Collection (Here) that are this weeks prize for our Friday FREEBIE. Mollie picked the number for us today, she is getting pretty good at it, but trying to get the "Bingo" bag off her is another matter, think I will have to make her one.

Mollie picked........

.....number 15 = Kara

oh wow i love the dog one, and the pony one, and the panda one and.......
Infact i love them all.
It would be so wonderful to win a whole set of new pets for my ever expanding zoo. lol
Have a great weekend and enjoy buying your ribbons.
xxx

Well Kara you have won them all - congratulations, all we need to get these animals to you is your address please to craftyribbons@gmail.com. Please do not call out the RSPCA if we send them by post!!

Thank you all for such wonderful comments and an extra huge thank you to those of you who have emailed or left comments about our NEW Website (not seen it yet, then click HERE), you are all so kind. Yes it was a lot of work, and if you enjoy it then it will be a great bonus. We still have a few issues that we are trying to iron out, it would appear that we had a "BUG" in our old system that would allow you to use two different voucher codes on one order, this new system will not allow it. We are seeing if we can re-install the "Bug" it may take a while!

Do you have an Apple Phone or a Android phone or smartphone? Yes - well, with our New webiste you can place orders straight from your phone, you no longer need to be at a computer.  So moving about on trains or buses to work, or even in hotel rooms, you can use our site as it is now fitted with the state of the art "On the Go" technology!

I'm bushed, begining to see double from staring at the screen all weekend, and as for my numb bum, well that is another matter!! I think I need an early night, is 6.30pm too early?

NEW Website

clock August 15, 2010 16:01 by author Crafty Ribbons

Phew it worked!!

Not only are we on our own NEW shiny server but we also have a NEW style website.

As you can see there are no major changes on the home page, a few new graphic boxes and a little bit of tweaking.  All the hard work has been put into the websites engine - look behind the scenes and you will see some super technology in action. This is our 4th generation website and we think it is awesome.

Your shopping basket will remain active for a period of 35days, you can use it like a wishlist and keep things in there and then take them out the next day - or put more in!
This only works on one computer, you will not be able to switch machines and expect to see your open basket.

You can sort products by different methods, our recommendations, price, popularity etc.

You can choose the number of items you wish to view on a page, this will be very helpful in the 3mm satin range!

We have added an express checkout - you do not have to register on the site if you do not wish to.

When you view your basket you can also see a thumbnail picture of the ribbons you have selected - brilliant.

There are so many new improvements (I do not want to bore you with them all!), but as you start to use the website you will notice them, also how lightning quick it is.

We are still doing some "live" testing on the site, making sure that every link is working.  This will take us a while but the majority of the work is complete.

Enjoy - The Crafty Team

craftyribbons.com is moving

clock August 15, 2010 07:56 by author Crafty Ribbons

Our craftyribbons website is moving today, to a brand new shiny server all of it's own,
no more sharing, no more jostling for space - it will be able to stretch and grow.

At some point today the site will go off line while the final data is being transferred, we anticipate this will only take a few hours.
Sorry for any inconvenience this may cause you.

What will a new server do for you - the key factors are speed and security.
As the new server will only house our site it will respond to your actions trilly seconds quicker,
with shared servers your security is only as good as the other sites you share it with!

We are ready, all the boxes are loaded, siutcases packed to bursting point - wish us luck.
