Summer Bunting week - No sew

clock May 20, 2013 09:45 by author Crafty Ribbons

Welcome to our Summer Bunting week - shame it is raining in Dorset!

We have all sorts of bunting this week, no sew, sew, small and large.  A few surprises, some super photos and tutorials.
If that was not all we also have FREEBIES, so do not forget to check in everyday to see what we have created.
Why not sign up for our newsletter here.  You will receive an email every time we write a new post - so no missing out.

  • Co-ordinating card or thickish paper
  • pen or pencil
  • hole punch
  • weights
  • cutting mat
  • pin
  • scissors
  • ribbon - we used 10mm gingham here

1. Make yourself a triangle template.  Print or copy the template below.

This is a multi use template, you can cut it horizontally to create any size bunting you want - magic!

2.  Cut out a selection of paper flags.

3. Using a hole punch, punch a hole at each end.

4.  Thread the gingham ribbon through the first paper flag and secure with a knot.

5.  Thread ribbon through the hole on the other side of this flag and through a new paper flag.
Place a weight onto each flag, this will help with tying the bow.
I used the spacing on my cutting mat to keep the distance of the flags even.

6.  Fold the ribbon over to start making a bow.

7.  You may find it easier to place a pin into the knot of the ribbon and into the cutting mat.
It just means that the knot remains tight while you tie the bow.

8.  Fold the ribbon to create a loop and hold with your index finger and your thumb.

9.  Wrap the other end of the ribbon over the loop, and hold with your thumb.

10. Remove your index finger and tuck the ribbon up through the hole to create a second loop.

11. Pull the ribbons tight, the secret about bow making is having a tight central knot.
Do not worry about the shape too much, we will sort that out next.

12.  Play around with the bow, making sure the loops are the same size, keeping the centre knot tight.
Trim the ends and remove the pin.

13. Join the next paper flag to the other side in the same way.
Continue until all the paper flags are conected.. Repeat step 4 for the last flag.

14. Looking good.

If you do not have the time to tie a bow between the flags, then just thread the flags onto one long piece of ribbon.
Have a play with different papers, you could use newspapers or maps for themed parties.

Our events would not be the same without a few FREEBIES!

What colour gingham ribbon would you use for your bunting?
Check out the colours here and leave us a comment.

We have five 20mtr rolls of 10mm gingham up for grabs,
so 1 roll to five winners.

We will pick the winners next Monday, so plenty of time.
Remember to refresh your screen after leaving a comment,
to ensure it has not been eaten.  Any problems email it to us craftyribbons@gmail.com

Hope you enjoyed today's paper bunting - what's in store for tomorrow?

Hello wednesday - flowers say it all

clock May 15, 2013 09:10 by author Crafty Ribbons

Don't you just LOVE wednesday's? Say hello to wednesday "hello wednesday" It's all downhill from now on to the weekend - yippee!!!

Todays Hello wednesday idea was sent to me by Elaine one of our Design Team girls.

A Handmade Get Well Card - it gives me so much pleasure to sit and look at my cards.  Silly to say but they did make me feel better!

Elaine only used one single piece of Swiss Dot Grosgrain ribbon here, but it just made it perfect.  Thank you Elaine and to all of you that sent me cards.  I have to say that Sam made me a card every day for almost two weeks.  Every morning when I went into work there was a Ali card on my desk.  If he did not have the time to make a card in the morning he raided Bev's stash and sent me a Christmas card!!  But the thought was there.

A little sewing machine work for me today.

Not always ribbons.....

clock May 14, 2013 13:47 by author Crafty Ribbons

...........sometimes we do go out and play.  Maybe not what you thought Mr & Mrs Craftyribbons would get up to, but  I spotted this, and I thought of work........

.....it just made me giggle.  Cross stitch on a car, not using embroidery thread or even ribbon, but it is cross stitch!

What were we doing looking at cars?  Well............... we have a bad boy in the family................

Meet Scooby.  He is (one) of Tony's cars and he had an outing to Japfest at the weekend.  Tony watched all the cars on the track, while I photographed all that moved.  I have just got a point and shoot camera, and I pointed it at everything!!!!!

Scoobies are known for the back ends!

This tickled me, a line of big laddies showing off their bottoms.

I did try and persuade Tony that scooby could do with a re-spray

Nope that did not go down well. Tony driving a PINK car, a PINK Scooby car!  I bought him a pink shirt a while back and told him it was raspberry.  He wore it quite happily until a customer at an exhibition asked him for a pink ribbon the same colour as his shirt!

Back to ribbons - you all liked the stripe ribbons I see.  Nice summery, deckchair-ish ribbons I would agree, but today I am freezing.  I have my body warmer, scarf and gloves on and have even thought about making a hot water bottle!!  Why has it gone so cold.  It is pouring with rain, we have a metal roof and the rain is so heavy we can hardly hear each other.  I have spent the last two days making things for a special event we are holding next week (will tell you more later in the week) but at this rate I should have made them waterproof!!!

Syd picked the winner of this weeks Friday FREEBIE (sorry been moonlighting as a portrait photographer, Syd had been watching me and wanted some photos taken! WOW look at that white background.)

Number 10 = Leah
Happy Friday Everyone ,
I love the stripy ribbons , We have a craft and wine weekend ahead I can`t wait, not sure what the crafts will look like after the wine , but I am sure we will all have a fab time.
Have a good weekend.

For those of you asking after my finger - thank you.
I had a visit to the hospital yesterday.  The scars/stitching is still healing well and I have regained almost 50% movement in it.
I have no feeling across the top or along one side but we hope with time and effort this may come back.
No sign of new nail growth but I had been warned that this may take a long time or not at all.  Fingers crossed it will!
I still have to reduce the swelling, which involes keeping my hand evelated.  Not easy, I walk around looking like Nelson!!
All in all a very happy bunny and in awe of the Plastics Team at Salisbury Hospital.

Hope you all have a great weekend.

Cor a hot bank holiday!

clock May 7, 2013 11:42 by author Crafty Ribbons

A miracle we had a hot Bank holiday, Tony surprised me with a short break down in Cornwall.  I think he got sight of my To Do List and decided that I was just not up to it.  So he got us up early on Saturday morning and said we are off to Cornwall. Yeah! He had booked our favourite hotel tucked down in the middle of nowhere.  We can never find it, and end up finding a different route each time we visit!

We had a fantastic time and the weather was just awesome, such a surprise. We had lunch yesterday in St Ives over looking the Life Boat station, and  the May Day procession came past with brass bands, Cornish music and dancers, May Queens and what topped the day was the May Pole dancing with ribbons!

We decided that we just could not top this, so after lunch we popped into the fudge shop for supplies for the warehouse, then made our way back up the hill to the car.  I hope you all had a great bank holiday. not many comments this week so I think lots of you were also away.

I have the great pleasure in looking after Miss Mollie today, she is sat by the side of me crafting away.  I have just had to tie a bow around a bunch of flowers for her....not easy!

The winner of our Friday FREEBIE wish list is..............................

Number 17 = Andi
